HallStar Introduces Sunscreen Photostabilizer

The HallStar Company, a Chicago-based specialty chemistry supplier, released a groundbreaking new ingredient that can improve the performance of all types of sun protection products, according to the company. HallStar’s SolaStay S1 is a new, more powerful photostabilizer that, when added to sunscreen formulations, can help sunscreen formulators achieve previously unobtainable levels of protection against both the burning and aging rays of the sun.

When exposed to energy from solar ultraviolet (UV) radiation, UV filters like avobenzone break down and lose their effectiveness. To prevent this, formulators add photostabilizers to slow down the degradation. SolaStay S1 uses a different, more effective process to prevent or slow UV filter degradation, dramatically outperforming every other photostabilizer in the market. The result is maximized UVA protection and increased SPF, according to HallStar.

SolaStay S1 is suitable for lotions, creams, sprays and gels. This is a powerful new tool for formulators who want UVA and UVB protection in their sunscreens and daily wear products.

Lipotec Rolls Out New Molecular Film

Lipotec has launched Xpertmoist, a molecular film that contains active ingredients with a high moisturizing and regenerating effect. According to the company, this new product prevents and repairs the damage that the skin suffers in extreme conditions, which cause dramatic trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL). Xpertmoist is designed to treat extreme dryness and restore skin health.

Xpertmoist can be incorporated into products where a high hydration level is required, conferring a pleasant feeling and relief for even extreme skin dryness. Its efficacy has been demonstrated with in vivo testing, where an immediate and long-lasting moisturizing effect was achieved. It also enhances plantar hyperkeratosis efficacy.

This new ingredient demonstrates the continuing growth of Lipotec’s expertise on molecular film technology. The technology used to obtain molecular films is micro-fluidization. It allows the product to pass through higher shear rates, due to an enhanced combination of the interaction chambers.

Moreover, the pressure applied to the product appears to be more appropriate with this reviewed technology.

Centerchem of Norwalk, CT is the exclusive North American distributor of Xpertmoist. Lipotec, a privately owned company founded in 1987, has a facility in Barcelona that both develops and manufactures new cosmetic actives—with a present core focus on molecular cosmetics.
